Washing your sheets more than once a semester will not prevent bed bugs. Bed bugs are NOT dust mites. They are parasites that you catch from other people and in hotels, on airplanes, through the walls of a neighboring apartment or dorm room, virtually anywhere.
They are hardy and insideous creatures that feed on you while you sleep for as long as they can get away with it-- in most cases, it takes months for a person to realize he or she is being bit by bed bugs, and when that realization occurs, a large infestation is usually already present. Bed bugs do not hide in your bedsheets. They hide and lay eggs in baseboards, carpet, bed frames, box springs, dressers, books, couches, clothes and shoes. Well, just about everywhere.
It costs thousands of dollars and takes several months to get rid of bedbugs. They are not like any other bug on the planet, and three or four special chemicals must be used by professional exterminators at least twice a month for several months in order to completely rid a residence of an infestation.
Bed bugs are a very serious matter and a growing epidemic in our country. And washing your sheets, however diligently, will do absolutley nothing to kill them.
